It was founded in 1898 and has formally been based in Chicago,1920-1959; Illinois, and St. Louis, 1960-1987 Missouri, the Cardinals now play at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. In 1901, team owner Chris O'Brien being a painting and decorating contractor, bought used maroon uniforms from the University of Chicago that had faded to the color of cardinal red. Hence the club adopted the name Cardinals. During the decades of 1920s, 1940s and the 1970s the Arizona cardinals built mighty teams that went on to bag a total of two National Football League titles and four Division crowns.
