The
Arizona Cardinals are a National Football League (NFL) team.
They play in the West Division of the National Football
Conference (NFC). Recently, defensive tackle Marcus Bell was
among five players released by the Arizona Cardinals. Bell, a
fourth round draft pick out of Memphis in 2001, started nine
games last season. In other news, Tuesday (June 1) saw defensive
tackle Barron Tanner, a six year National Football League (NFL)
veteran who started two games last year, tight end Steve Bush,
defensive back Justin Lucas and quarterback Preston Parsons cut
from the roaster. Pat Tillman a former NFL player was killed by
friendly fire in Afghanistan on April 22.

Tillman walked away from a $3.6 million
contract with the Arizona Cardinals to
join the Army after the Sept. 11, 2001,
attacks. On the standings front, the
Cardinals came in last in last years
(2003) West Division standings, having
won four games and lost twelve, with a
.250 percentage. The Arizona Cardinals
face the Vikings in their first
pre-season match up on Aug 14.The
Cardinals are the oldest existing club
in the United States, formed in 1920 and
known as the Chicago Cardinals the team
was a member of the American
Professional Football Association (APFA).
The Cardinals then joined the National
Football League (NFL) in 1943, they
changed their name in 1944 to the
Card-Pitt then changed it back to the
Chicago Cardinals in 1945. |

In
1960 the team moved to St. Louis (St. Louis
Cardinals) and were there until 1987, they
then moved to Phoenix and were known as the
Phoenix Cardinals for some time. In 1994 the
team moved to Arizona and are now known as
the Arizona Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals
are a National Football League team that
plays in the West of the National Football
Conference. The Cardinals have won two
League Championships 1925(NFL) and
1947(NFL), they have four Division
Championships two in NFL west and two in NFC West, they have appeared in the playoffs six times since 1947. The Arizona Cardinals play in the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The team is constructing a new stadium in Glendale, which will have a slide out grass surface and a retractable roof. The new stadium is scheduled to open in 2006.
