Indianapolis with a population of slightly above seven hundred and eighty thousand residents, is the largest city in the state of Indiana and was chosen as the state capital in 1825. The city is in the county seat of Marion. Indianapolis is situated in the middle of Indiana on the western part of the White River. The cities name is a combination of Indiana and the Greek word for city "Polis." Indianapolis was established as a city in 1832.
